SEO Lesson Number Two

SEO Lesson Number Two

In the previous lesson, SEO lesson number one, I discussed keyword selection.  If you have done your homework to this point, you are beginning to realize the importance of choosing a high traffic keyword, or keyword phrase.  The whole point of search engine optimization is to get traffic to your site.  In other words, your goal should be to get people to view your information on your site for your products and services.

In SEO Lesson Number Two, I will go into detail, the art of choosing a domain name.  Once you have chosen your keyword, not its time to go to a stable domain hosting company to make your selection.  When choosing a domain reseller, there are several key things to remember.  All domain hosting companies are not created equal.  I would never choose a domain company that does not provide telephone support.  I have been with several domain resellers that only provide back office support tickets.  This can be a very painful experience for you to deal with.  Believe me when I tell you, I have been there and done that more times than I care to mention.

Once you have chosen a domain hosting company, its time to start your domain search.  Here again, you will turn to your keyword or keyword phrase that you have chosen.  I am able to find extrememly good domain names.  Do not think for one moment that all the .com's are gone.  This is quite the contrary.  Sometimes you have to spend time in searching these domains, but you will eventually find just what you are looking for.

The .com domains are the most popular, but I can assure you that any domain chosen for a particular keyword phrase can be developed into a powerful one.  I have also gotten into the habit of purchasing domain names in multiples.  In other words, I will buy .com, .net, biz and .info.  After all, I have taken my time, researched my keywords carefully, and I do not want others to encroach on my domain territory once I spend time developing my website.

Choose wisely your domains.  If you were approaching the keyword phrase home based business, then  you will want to have that keyword within your domain.  In other words, you could choose something like homebasedbusinessmarketing.com, or something around that keyword.  You see that choosing the domain properly is the very life blood of your online business.  Domains, while extremely economical to purchase, are the very root source of everything that you will do henceforth on Google.  So your decision can be a very positive one, or quite the contrary.

Never make the mistake of trying to be clever with your domain.  Choosing some obscure keyword term is the very worst thing that you can do to propel your online business to the top of Google.  I have seen some awful domain names and wondered why anyone in their right mind would choose a phrase like that.

It is a known fact that aged domains are much more powerful on the Internet than newly purchased ones.  You can use this to your distinct advantage.  You will want to get into the habit of purchasing domains, even if you are not planning on using them right away.  Once that domain is purchased, you can simply put up a simple coming soon page.  This will begin the aging process for you.

In the next SEO Lesson, we will begin to discover what makes a great Google website.  You are probably going to be blown away with what you learn.  A good marketing website is nothing that you have probably seen, or read about.  Just a word about purchasing your domain.  Choosing ButchHamiltonsBestDomains.com is a wise decision.  I have geared my domain hosting business around the fact it is very economical to purchase, and if you are new to the whole scope of internet marketing, my service will give you a free 5-page website and a free pop3 email account.  This is all included in the price of the hosting for the entire year.  There is no better value in domains, hosting or email accounts to be found on Google.
