Home Business Technology

The speedy growth of technology has enabled it to pervade American's lives in ways previously confined to Sci-Fi movies. According to the 11th annual "Mindset List" released by Wisconsin-based Beloit College, current college students (those born after 1990) don't remember life without the World Wide Web at their fingertips or without caller ID; people born only a few years earlier clearly recall rifling through encyclopedias for their homework and answering the phone with no idea who's calling.

Thanks to the scientists at Lexington International, LLC, another progression in technology is poised to change a popular mindset – The HairMax LaserComb is a hand held device that has made low level laser therapy accessible to men and women in their own homes, eliminating the powerlessness of those suffering from hair loss. "For generations, hair loss has been perceived as something that people are basically defenseless against," says Lexington International CEO David Michaels and one-time sufferer of hair loss. "The HairMax LaserComb has changed that perception in those who have used it. Drastic measures like surgery or baldness are no longer the only options when hair loss or thinning occurs."

How Does The HairMax LaserComb Work?

The HairMax LaserComb uses low laser therapy to achieve an effect similar to photosynthesis – it delivers laser energy (also known as photo-biostimulation) to the root level of the scalp to energize and improve blood circulation while stimulating the growth of individual hair follicles. Increased blood flow increases cellular metabolism and cellular activity. Hair follicles bask in the energy of low level laser therapy, becoming stronger and more rejuvenated and as a result, produce thicker, healthier hair.

The history of light therapy is traced back to the ancient cultures. In 1550 BC, the Egyptians wrote about photo therapy treatments. The Greeks built solariums high up in the mountains to exploit the additional ultra-violet light to heal tubercolosis. More currently, red light was used to suppress the effects of the smallpox virus. Additionally, the second Nobel Prize in medicine ever was awarded in 1903 to Niels Ryberg Finsen, MD in recognition of his contribution to the treatment of diseases with laser therapy. While laser therapy boasts an impressive history and its applications treat everything from jaundice in infants to skin conditions in adults, Lexington International LLC is the first to render it accessible in the home to combat hair loss.

Who Can Benefit From Low Level Laser Therapy?

The FDA in 2007 approved the HairMax LaserComb as an effective solution to combat hair loss in men with androgenetic alopecia making it only the third method to gain approval from the FDA for hair loss and the only drug free method. For the FDA submission, Lexington conducted an extensive clinical study in four different locations in the United States. Consistent with a placebo controlled experiment, subjects were divided into two groups: one used the HairMax LaserComb and the other used a sham device.

"Our studies concluded that 93 percent of the participants, who ranged in age from 30 to 60 years old, using the HairMax had an increased number of thick hairs," explains David Michaels. "What's more is that during the very extensive study, there were no reports of serious adverse effects – the number and type of adverse effects was comparable in the active and placebo groups."

Lexington recently wrapped up its testing for female efficacy and submitted that data to the FDA.

How is The HairMax LaserComb Used?

Just like brushing your teeth, the HairMax LaserComb is best used regularly. Usage is quick and painless: simply glide the device from the front of the hairline to the back in rhythm with the beeping every four seconds as little as three times a week for 10 to 15 minutes each time. Individual results can vary, but within the first 10 to 12 weeks HairMax users will notice general improvements (including thicker, more manageable hair). Over the next few months, users will likely notice their hair becoming fuller and denser as the hair count actually increases.
